Keke Napep, Okada riders urged to be ambassadors of peace

As part of efforts to engender the desired level of peace and tranquility in Southern Kaduna, a Non Governmental Organization, ‘Global Peace Foundation’ (GPFN), has organized a town hall meeting for commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators in Kafanchan and its environs.
The town hall meeting was intended to sensitise especially, the youths on the need to be vanguards of peaceful coexistence, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
Speaking at the event, the Country Director of Global Peace Foundation, Nigeria, Reverend John Joseph Hayab said the main objective of the meeting is to ensure that the prevailing peace in the area is jealously guarded for  legitimate activities to thrive.
Reverend Hayab said the choice of the commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators was deliberate in view of their everyday interaction with passengers and urged them to be ambassadors of peace at all times.
Similarly, Sheikh Haliru Maraya, the northern coordinator, GPFN, who underscored the importance of  the commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators and appealed to them to help report criminal elements they may carry in the course of their work to appropriate authorities.
He, however, told them to respect traffic rules and regulations as they ply the roads.
Earlier, a security expert, DSP Emmanuel Daniel said for effective security in any society, the collaboration of all stakeholders was necessary.
While urging the youths to desist from taking the law into their hands in the event of any provocation, DSP Daniel said everyone has a responsibility to promote peace in the society.
The meeting ended with the distribution of safety jackets to the over two hundred participants that attended.
