NUJ TRAINS MEMBERS  MODERN TECHNIQUES OF JOURNALISM

Nigeria Union of Journalists Zaria of Kaduna State Council has trained Journalists on modern techniques of Journalism in order to meet the global standard of Journalism practice

Declaring open  the one day workshop organized by the union the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman Kaduna state Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Alhaji Shehu Idris CFR has described frequent training of journalists on global and modern Techniques of the profession as a necessary pre-requisite towards achieving national cohesion and rapid socio-economic and political development of the nation.

The Monarch who was represented by his Chief protocol and public relations officer, Chiroman Shantalin Zazzau, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan applauded the initiative and urged the union not to relent in retraining it’s members.

He said journalists as the fourth realm estate in the country plays greater role in continued existence of Nigeria as a single entity.

Alhaji Idris admonished Journalists to always prioritize the nation’s interest before their own interest to enable them champion the crusade of uniting the nation as dynamic country.

He advised members of the NUJ to desist from sensational reportage especially on security situation of the nation and engaged in objective analysis of issues and events bordering on national cohesion and integration.

Delivering his lectures on “Ethics and Standard of Journalism”, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,Mallam Kabir Danladi warned journalists against encroaching into the the private life of their News makers.

He said such attitude could amount to mischief and gross violation of rights to privacy as provided to all Nigerians in the constitution.

The Academic also cautioned against the collection of brown envelope by journalists from their interviwee which he said was  tantamount to drawing favour in  their reportage.

Danladi however lashed Media organizations for poor remunerations which he attributed to the resultant consequences that forces most of the journalists to engage in corruption.

He said “It is so sad to say some media organizations engaged workers(reporters) and issue them identification cards only to serve as their meal tickets.

“Such organization do not pay their reporters a single penny at month end,a situation that has become the order of the day especially in the print media.”

In his contribution Alhaji Bello Wakili, FRCN correspondant in the Villa enjoined local media organizations to always localise their news stories for the benefit of their immediate society.

He cautioned against competing with media house with national outlook in disseminating information to their target audience /listeners.

Also his lecturer another in Department of Mass Communicatio, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Mallam Maikudi Umar Cashman implored journalists to embrace the global social changes in trending their stories.

He stressed on the need for Journalists to take advantage of the modern digital facilities to aid and simplify their work.

However, Cashman tasked them to learn the use of digital global applications like You tube, twitter and other appliance for easy networking of news stories.

Our Correspondent reports that the Participants were drawn from Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa and Katsina states while the Chairman and Secretary of Union, Comrades Moh Bello Habib and Abubakar S Mohammed were among the resource persons where they lectured on “Crime reporting/Investigative Journalism and “Technique of Broadcast’ respectively.
