Sen Wamakko donates 500KVA transformer to Gidadawa community in Sokoto

The residents of the Gidadawa community and its neighbours , adjacent to the Sultan of Sokoto’s Palace, Sokoto metropolis,  heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday as Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko donated a 500 KVA, 11/415 KV to them .

The 300 KVA transformer which was hitherto servicing the area burnt about three months ago and it had not been replaced by either the State Government or the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company( KEDCO), in spite of myriad of failed promises to do so.

In a statement signed Bashir Rabe Mani,  Dan Masanin Mani,Special Assistant,  Media and Publicity, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and made available to news men in sokoto reads as.

Thousands of residents of the Gidadawa, Yar Gabas , Masunta and Nufawa communities had been thrown into total darkness since then, while all socioeconomic activities have been completely grounded due to the ugly incident .

According to the Engineer handling the installation of the transformer,  Mr Jimoh Momoh, normal electricity supply would be fully restored to all the benefiting  areas as soon as the work was completed and the transformer energized, latest by Friday.

Momoh also said that , the necessary approvals were being awaited from KEDCO.

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial Disttrict, explained that, his invaluable gesture was aimed at further alleviating the suffering of the residents of the benefiting communities .

Senator Wamakko, who spoke through his Director of Administration,  Almustapha Alkali, averred that , the donation was sequel to a request made to him by a high powered delegation from the areas, during a recent visit.

He added , ” afterwards,  I despatched a Team of Experts who assessed the situation and recommended the urgent donation of the transformer, to ease the suffering of the residents .”

Senator Wamakko, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman,  Senate Committee on Anti Corruption,  urged the residents to judiciously utilize the transformer,  as well as guard it jealously from vandals .

A spokesman of the residents , Alhaji Bawa UnguwarNufawa, lauded Senator Wamakko for the unprecedented, priceless gesture .

” We are extremely elated today, because of this noble gesture and we will immediately commence the recitation of the Holy Qur’an and sustained fervent prayers for Senator Wamakko,” Bawa, added.
