Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and others injured in the tragic accident that claimed six lives and left thirteen persons injured along the Lokoja–Okene road on Wednesday.
The victims were returning from the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration held at the Government House, Lokoja, when the accident occurred.
Describing the incident as “a devastating tragedy for the entire state,” Governor Ododo paid condolence visits to the bereaved families, assuring them that they were not alone in their grief.
He expressed profound sorrow over the loss, noting that “the death of any Kogite is a loss to the whole state.”
The governor also visited survivors receiving treatment at various hospitals in Lokoja, pledging his full support for their recovery.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to covering
medical expenses of the injured victims in all health facilities where they are currently receiving treatment.
In a related development, Governor Ododo also paid condolence visit to the family of the late Senator Isah Obaro Abonyi.
Governor Ododo noted that Senator’s life exemplified integrity, humility, and dedication to public service—qualities that earned him respect across Kogi State and the nation.
He described the senator’s passing as a significant loss, not only to his family and Kogi Central but to the entire state.
Senator Abonyi represented what is now Kogi Central Senatorial District (formerly part of Kwara South) in the Senate from 1979 to 1983, leaving behind a distinguished legacy of service and commitment to the development of his constituency.
He died on Tuesday at the age of 90 and has since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
