A Sokoto-based NGO, Balarabe Goronyo Foundation has donated assorted writing materials and uniforms to no fewer than 200 orphans and indigent children in Sokoto City.
The beneficiaries were given various writing materials like books and pencils, as well as uniforms.
Its founder, Alhaji Zayyanu Aliyu, said that the beneficiaries also included 100 Almajiri school children who were given wooden slates.
They included Nursery and primary school pupils as well as students of Junior Secondary Schools.
They were drawn from Kofar Rini, Galadunchi, Kofar Bai and other adjoining areas in Sokoto metropolis.
Aliyu stated the gesture was part of the foundation’s humble efforts to boost the educational development of the orphans and the indigent kids.
“Poverty should not be an inhibiting factor to the educational pursuit of these children.
“The citizens must also strive to complement the efforts of the government in funding education at all levevls.,”he added.
According to him, such noble gestures will make the children to be productove, and be useful to themselves and the society.
Aliyu said that as the future leaders of Nigeria, no efforts should be spared to make them well educated to diligently take up the challenge.
He said, “The quantity doesn’t matter but the pure intention of the gesture.
”I am therefore appealing to all Nigerians to imbibe these type of gestures and extend their widow’s mite to the less-privileged children.
“We should not only concern ourselves with the education of our children and wards, but the education of the entire youths in our various communities.
“This is very crucial as the children exert peer group influence on their friends, irrespective of any social or economic statuses.”
It could be recalled that the foundation’s has been routinely engaged in a myriad of philanthropic gestures ranging from education, health, poverty eradication and empowerment, among others.
