The Sokoto state University authorities have approved the promotion of five academic staff to the rank of professor.
Also promoted are three lecturers to the rank of Senior lecturers according to a statement by the univeristy’s PRO, Mr Zayyanu Shehu.
The Governing Council of the university at its special meeting weekend under the chairmanship of Engr. Bello Suleiman simultaneously approved the promotions.
According to the release, the promoted staff cut across across different disciplines that include Chemistry, Hausa, Computer Science, Arabic, Biological Sciences, and Education.
However, the release said those promoted to the rank of professor include Dr. Muhammad Sirajo and. Dr. Mansur Yahaya Ibrahim, both of the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry while Dr. Mansur Aliyu is of the Department of Computer Science.
Others to the same rank are: Dr. Aliyah Adamu Ahmad of the Department of Nigerian Languages and Dr. Sirajo Muhammad Sokoto of the Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies.
Those promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturers are : Dr. Adamu Abdullahi of the Department of Biological Sciences; while Dr. Nasiru Abubakar Katami and Dr. Bashar Sa’adu Isa, both of the Department of Educational Foundation.
Meanwhile,rejoicing with the newly promoted staff, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashir Garba noted that they were promoted, following the Council’s endorsement of their positive recommendations by their respective external assessors.
Garba added that the University management, with the support of the Governing Council, would continue to prioritize the motivation of staff as key for productivity towards academic excellence adding that ” It will drive their sense of commitment to duty, as well consciousness against insubordination or indolence”, the Voce Chancellor noted as he explained that the step would further encourage other staff to be more alive to their responsibilities.
” This is because the University is determined to have thoroughly trained staff, who can advance teaching, research, and community service for development ”
