The former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has described the late Governor of the old Sokoto State, Alhaji Garba Nadama, as Iconic, patriotic and pious .
This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, to Senator Wamakko, Bashir Rabe Mani, Dan Masanin Mani, and issued to newsmen in Sokoto, on Wednesday .
Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial Disttrict, paid these glowing tributes on the deceased, when he paid a condolence visit to his residence, in Sokoto, Tuesday.
According to Senator Wamakko: ” The late Governor was an epitome of patience , diligence , dedication and piety , while he never indulged in anything he was never involved .
” He had an impeccable character and his penchant for honesty, commitment , discipline and decorum was unparalleled. His life was worthy of emulation by all leaders .
” I still happily reminiscence our meeting with him, in 1968, at the then Sokoto Teachers’ College, when he was a Teacher and in 1973, in Moriki, at a politcal campaign rally.”
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, further described the demise of the former cool-headed Governor as a great loss, not only to his family, but, to Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, as well as the entire nation.
Senator Wamakko, who fondly called the deceased , ” Mallam,” prayed the Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannat Firdaus, as well as grant his family , the three states and entire Nigerians, the formidable fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
Special prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased were presided by Sheikh Bashir Gidan Kanawa.
During the condolence visit, Senator Wamakko was received by another former Governor of the state, Mallam Yahaya Abdulkarim, as well as the eldest son of the deceased, Brig.- Gen., Kabiru Nadama, his siblings and other relatives.
Late Garba Nadama died in Sokoto, after a brief illness , penultimate week, when Senator Wamakko was away in Abuja, on national assignment .
