Police rescue 20 cows, donkey from fleeing rustlers as it warns ahead Saturday’s re-run elections

The Sokoto police command on Thursday said it has rescued 20 cows and a donkey from a fleeing group of cattle rustlers.

The Command PPRO, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i disclosed while briefing journalists on the operations that led to the rescue of the animals around a community along Kware- Gada road.

” Our CID and SWAT acted on intelligence to trail the rustlers who upon sighting our men, abandoned the cows and donkey and fled away.

” Upon investigation, we identified the rightful owner and handed the animals to him”, the command image maker explained as he appealed to the public to always cooperate with and give the police useful and correct information on crimes for prompt action.

He also reminded the public against misguided information and views based on the wrong perceptions of others on the force operations.

” We are working for the public in their common interest against crime and criminals for the safety of their lives and property inorder to be peacefully secured”, he added.

Meanwhile, the command under the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Hayatu Kaigama presided over a security and peace pact with political parties and leaders ahead of the Saturday re-run elections to be conducted across 46 polling units in the state.

Kaigama appealed for calm during the exercise while vowing that the police and other security agencies would not allow persons to over heat the polity.

” I will like to warn that INEC is only authority saddled with the conduct and announcement of results. Therefore, everyone must play the game by the rules as enshrined in the electoral Act and any breach of the act, the long hand of the law would catch up with the culprit.

However, Administrative Secretary of the Commission in the state , Barrister Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa who had expressed confidence in the security agencies towards the exercise , said the commission was practically ready to conduct the elections freely, fairly , transparently and credibly.

Accordingly, representatives of political parties especially the major contenders in the exercise, PDP and APC had their leaders in attendance at the event held in the state police command conference hall.
