The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has said that the state government would establish Local Government Emergency Management Committees (LGEMC) at the local government level for early response to disasters.

The Governor stated this on Monday when he paid a working visit to NEMA Headquarters saying, the LGEMCs are to provide first support to victims of the disaster at the grassroots before support from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The Governor noted that the local Committees would be adequately equipped to function efficiently.

“These Committees would serve as first aid to victims of disaster across the state,” he said.

Mustapha Habib Ahmed, Director General, NEMA, commended Governor Buni for the initiative, adding that such a move will provide fast and efficient support to disaster victims.

“Yobe state has been a leading role model in disaster management providing efficient support to victims” the DG stated.

The Director General decorated Governor Buni as NEMA Ambassador on Disaster Management.

Governor Buni was accompanied to NEMA by the Hon. commissioner for finance Alh. Mustapha Musa, the Chief of Staff to the Governor Alh. Abdullahi Yusuf and Chairman Potiskum Local Government Council Alh. Salisu Mukhtari
