Customs destroys smuggled  unregistered, expired items in Sokoto

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Sokoto Area Command  on Wednesday destroyed quantum of seized counterfeit and expired products, saying it will sustain the tempo against those smuggling and trading in such items considered unfit for human consumption.
“Section 245 of NCS Act 2023 empowers the Service to seized goods that contravene customs and Excise Laws and be disposed in such a manner the Service directs”
The items destroyed followed certification by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as unfit for human consumption.
According to the agency ” we  will not hesitate to keep vigil against perpetrators of such illicit business which is unfit for human consumption.
” These are unregistered smuggled items that the National Agency for Food and drug Administrative and Control (NAFDAC) certified to be unfit for human consumption.”
Speaking while setting ablaze seized counterfeit and expired products in Sokoto , the Comptroller of Customs in charge of Sokoto and Zamfara states, Musa Omale said the Nigeria Customs Service would not leave anything unturned in ensuring such items were seized and destroyed.
” We will always be on top of our mandate inorder to curb the dangerous activities. It is counter productive to human health.
” This is clear case of economic sabotage which the agency will keep fighting “, Omale said.
Omale who was assisted by the 8 Division Garrison Commander, Sokoto , Brigadier General A.A. Tawasimi, representatives of NAFDAC, Police,NDLEA, Correctional Centre among others,  disclosed that the quantum of items destroyed were an accumulation from several seizures made last year by the service explaining that sustaining the collaboration among agencies would further strengthen the drive in the best economic interest and health of Nigerians.
