Former Governor of Sokoto state Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko on Thursday secured the release of no fewer than 62 inmates from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The gesture, is the 10th of its kind in series by the Senate Committee Chairman on Defense.
Wamakko representing Sokoto North Senatorial District on the platform of All Progressives Congress said the gesture was to enable the freed inmates serving various jail terms across Sokoto, Tambuwal, Wurno and Gwadabawa Correctional Centres to celebrate Eid-el Fitr with their families and loved ones.
Secretary to Aliyu Magatakarda Legal Aide, Barrister Abdulhamid Zubairu who spoke on behalf of the Senator charged them to be good Ambassadors and avoid repeating same mistakes that will take them back in jail.
Barrister Abdulhamid, added that, the inmates were paid their different charges, fines and compensation according to a statement issued Friday by Bashar Abubakar , Special Assistant Media and Publicity to the Senator.
He later announced the donation of ten thousand Naira each to the freed inmates for transportation back to their various destinations.
Some of the beneficiaries, Bello Abubakar, Amina Muhammad, Amina Dahiru and Usman Muhammad thanked the senator for his humanitarian and invaluable gesture to them.
They also promised to be of good conduct and character while ralating with other members of the society.
They prayed Allah the Almighty to continue to help and protect the senator to discharge his duty deligently.
The program was initiated by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko since 2016 and is being run annually especially during every Eid-el Fitr and Eid-el Kabir celebrations.
