Hours to the general elections scheduled for Saturday, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ , Sokoto state Council urges members of the union to remain apolitical as it cautioned them to ensure accurate, objective and balanced reportage through out the elections exercise.
The Council Chairman , Dalhatu Abdullahi Safiyal Magori in a statement he issued Thursday evening strongly warned Members against bias or partisanship at the expense of objectivity, describing such as unethical in election coverage.
Accordingly, Safiyal Magori charged members to put in their best inline with professional ethics and, as well, see national interest and security as watch word at the time Nigerians go to polls to elect new Leaders.
In the same vein, the union Chairman said journalists should see themselves as responsible citizens and critical stakeholders in the drive for peace, unity and national cohesion among all Nigerians.
” The stand of the union is that any member who embraces partisan politics , is on his own”, he stressed.
