In 2025 the year under review, National human rights Commission had recorded at least 1.4m human rights cases.
The appointment of Salamatu Hussaini as the Chairman of the Commission had boost human rights fight which has restored Nigeria past record of higher number of human abuses.
Hussaini’s first assignment after taking over the mantle of leadership was public awareness because huge number of literates and illiterate Nigerians don’t know their fundamental human rights as citizens.
Though the lettered citizens may not have confidence in the commission, while the uneducated are being affected by social norms thus hindering them from speaking up against any form of human abuses.
Within the year under review, Hussaini engaged in series of community social interactions with critical stakeholders in human rights drive thus the commission gave free hand to civil society organizations, women groups , traditional and religious leaders to speak up and approach the commission to register any form of human rights abuse.
Her social interactions bore fruits within short time as human rights abuses flows just as they are being solved in either community level or in Courts in some critical issues, therefore Nigerians from all walks of life now have confidence in the ability of the human rights Commission to ensure rights protection of individuals and groups.
Hussaini didn’t achieved these much alone but with her experienced formidable team because of her openeness and direct open door policy.
The Nigeria’s Human rights Commission is not only popular, it has become reliable and can equate with other international human rights organizations globally tailored by her towards human rights protections of all Nigerians regardless of tribe, religion and region.
Armed with records of abuses particularly on women who are weak gender therefore prone to human rights abuse through domestic violence ,she immediately activated gender and domestic violence component of the commission to receive and treat human rights abuses following all women related cases to it’s logical conclusions to ensure justice to all the victims.
Now Hussaini has wind down the hitherto scary number of human rights abuses in Nigeria through prompt response to reported cases.
She has written her name in gold and will go down in history as a rare women who treaded the path of men and succeeded,she has captivating track records of selfless services while minister of foreign and women affairs in Nigeria.
