Democracy is largely defined as the government of the people, by the people and for the people . This laconic and apt definition of democracy makes the bride of all and sundry, nay globally. Any system of government or adomistration that is bereft of the world acclaimed ingredients and principles of democracy is therefore abhored, as well as stigmatized.
Nigeria has for istance has trudged on as a truly Democratic nation, devoid of the hitherto obnoxious military incursions since 1999. Though yet faced by some peculiar issues, the Nigerian state has been a democratic state, with no fewer than six successful democratic transitions.
In between, the various state governments have also been conducting successful local governments elections, a very important third tier of government, according to the nation’s extant 1999 Constitution, as amended. This is the same in Sokoto State as being done successfully and successively by the State Independent Electoral Commission ( SIEC).
Instructively, the commission has yet scheduled another local governments polls into the 23 Local Government Councils of Sokoto State on the 27th of March,2021. Robust and plausible arrangements have been made by the commission, in this direction.
Various activities have been lined up by SIEC to ensure the successful conduct of the polls, as scheduled and according to the law establishing the commission. Everything is also going on according to plans, so far.
The various political parties have also been engaging in various activities,in tandem with the processes and guidelines reeled out by SIEC. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Sokoto State Chapter has also been relentlessly working to ensure it’s successful participation in the polls .
Interestingly, the party , courtesy of the wisdom of it’s leader, the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has decided to unanimously adopt the use of consensus to select the Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates accros fur state .
This logic of deploying consensus had really paid off as the party has already in it’s kitty, all the 23 and 244 Chairmanship and Councillorship flagbearers, respectively. It has just conducted hitchfree primary Elections, through the consensus mechanism.
Consequently, an Eagle had landed in Sokoto North Local Government, in the person of Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto. Shehu has just emerged as the PDP Chairmanship Candidate for the Local Government. What a happy development?
Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto, is a Veteran Journalist,a tested and trusted Media Administrator whose acumen is impeccable. He is a man of the people , who has also learnt the art of governance and adminstration, for decades. His wealth of experience in handling the affairs of the people is therefore very useful in this direction.
Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto had rsien to the enviable position of a Director in the Sokoto State Civil Service . He was the Director of Press Affairs to Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa. He was also until his emergence as the Chairmanship Candidate, a Senior Special Assistant ( SAA), to the Sokoto State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Mutawallen Sokoto. His sterling characters, wisdom and sense of judgment are also unassailable. They will certainly impact positively in how he will steer the ship of Sokoto North Local Government to the promised Land.
The indefatigable candidate has also vowed to sustain the tempo of socioeconomic development in the local government,if elected by the peace loving peaople of the Premier Local Government, one of the Municipal Local Government Councils, the Seat of the State Government.
Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto has promised to accord top.priority to the empowerment of youths , women and other vulenerable groups . He has also vowed to focus more on the provision of the basic necessities of life to the people of the local government,like water, health, education, security , agriculture and the general welfare of the residents of the area, irrespective of any political , ethnic or religious affinities .
This, he noted, was aimed at consolidating the tangible achievements so far recorded in the area and across the state , as championed by the people’s Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Mutawallen Sokoto.
Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto,has therefore humbly and most profoundly solicited the usual support , cooperation and fervent prayers of the people of the local government. He averred that, his administration will be a government by the people, for the people and by the people. It will indeed be an all-inclusive Government where everyone matters, across all the strata.
As the Eagle has landed, the people of Sokoto North Local Government, should troop out to the polling units en masse and vote for Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto as the next democratically elected Chairman of the area. The electorate will in sha Allahu, be the happier for reposing tremendous confidence in him. They should fly with Eagle, to take Sokoto North Local and Sokoto State Governments and indeed Nigeria, to greater heights.
