Sokoto police vow to curb crime, gifted 7 retired officers refrigerators

The Police Commissioner, Sokoto state command, Mr Muhammad Usaini Gumel on Thursday said the command is determined to drive more proactive measures towards curbing all forms of violence and criminal activities including other sundry crimes in the state.

He stressed that the command was on top of its operational strategies against crime pointing out that ” we are tailored towards peaceful electioneering process against all forms of violence, hate speeches, circulation of fake online stories and other associated unrest at political campaigns.”

Gumel made the vow during the 2022 CP’s conference in Sokoto where he also disclosed that police authorities had been regularly supportive to families of slain policemen who died in active service vice against banditry.

Participants at the conference aimed at facilitating smooth activities as well share experiences included Divisional Police Officers, Head of Units, Area Commands and other key operatives to facilitate smooth activities as well as share experiences.

Accordingly, the top police officer said the command was making moves to immediately provide the deceased entitlements.

He explained that Sokoto Police Command ensured proactive strategies on contain all forms of violence, hate speeches, circulation of fake online stories and other associated unrest at political campaigns.

According to him, a working synergy has been established with all the law enforcement agencies in the state through a single platform to ensure hitch free electioneering process and elections.

Reflecting on the arrest by the command of a suspect with multiple voters cards, Gumel said his prosecution and conviction in the state had become an eye opener noting that since then, no arrest had so far been made on similar crime in the state.

However, Gumel while declaring open the conference, said the event was convened to review the year’s performances and proffer solutions to lingering security challenges and operations.

Hitherto, Gumel explained that police commands were instructed to fine-tune activities to ensure successful achievements in safeguarding lives and properties of citizens.

Meanwhile, Gumel had on behalf of the command’s welfare committee led by its chairman, DCP. Ibrahim Adamu, presented brand new refrigerators as donations to seven retiring senior officers from the Command.

The recepients included 4 DSPs Shehu Bawa, Haladu Malam, Ibrahim Ladan and Maidawa Atto as well as 3 ASPs, Bala Danladi, Sabo Sahabi and Ibrahim Shu’aibu.
