Sokoto state police command has said that it will not compromise it’s constitutional role and mandate at taming any attempt to undermine the public peace and security before , during and after the general elections in the state.
Similarly, the command disclosed that it has concluded arrangement for the deployment of 3,000 police personnel for a hitch free elections in the state.
” As you are aware that some emerging crimes are threatening national security and could undermine our efforts towards entrenching a peaceful electioneering process, of not adequately curtailed.”
Mr Usaini Gumel , Commissioner of Police in the state who vowed at a strategic meeting with top ranking officers of the command on Thursday, said the command was intensifying a workable security mechanism with INEC as well other intelligence and security agencies , foreign observers towards delivering a free, fair credible and peaceful elections .
Gumel who noted the realities of internal security challenges in parts of communities in the state , assured of a more responsive collaborative drive through the ICCES with the support of other critical stakeholders.
He said the scenario has ravaged many communities particularly in the Eastern and southern parts of the state with adverse effects on their economic and social wellbeing.
” These include banditry , terrorism and thuggery which are perpetrated with political undertones and consequently a threat to our democracy”, pointed out Gumel.
Accordingly, the CP said all cadres of Police personnel with the support of the military would ensure that no political actor or miscreants were able to subdue any part of the civil space.
In the same vein, he urged all Area commanders, DPO’s and Tactical Teams to brace against the incessant attacks on INEC facilities.
” You should ensure emplacement of firm actions that will deter attacks on INEC facilities in the state especially at this crucial stage of electioneering.”
Gumel further solicited support of patents and guardians to counsel their children and wards to resist the urge of being recruited as tools to disrupt the election process.
