VON Correspondent Asmau Emerge First Female Chapel Chairperson

 

Hajia Asma’u Yawo Halilu of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) has emerged as the Chairperson of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna Council.

Hajia Halilu’s only contender Abdulraheem Aodu of Blueprint Newspaper voluntarily withdrew from the race leaving her to be elected unopposed.

Also elected unopposed alongside the Chairperson were Stella Kabruk from NAN as Treasurer, Kolo Gimba Moses also from NAN as Secretary, Rahila Abdullahi of Leadership Newspaper as Assistant Secretary, David Onuoja of Kogi Graphic as financial Secretary and Gambo Abubakar of Legacy newspaper as Auditor.

In her acceptance speech after their inauguration ceremony which had large attendance of members and well wishers, the newly sworn in Chairperson disclosed solicited for the prayers  and support of chapel members.

“We intend to introduce a vibrant cooperative where members can save money and as well access loans easily”.

She also promised to prioritize the welfare of members, ” we will collectively be like the mother hen who will be responsible for every member and ensure that is properly taken care of .

“We will carry out journalism training and explore the capacity building opportunities for chapel members, this will be pursued to ensure ethics and standard practice of the profession is upheld.

“We shall set up system that will address cases of misunderstanding and misgiving among members. I promise to personally reach out to aggressive members, if any, for united body.

“As new leaders, we solicit for your continuous support to succeed in this task; we will always consult within the chapel as well as with the state Council and other stakeholders to achieve giant strides” she stated.
