The mother of all defections in Sokoto state seat of the caliphate took toll on the ruling People’s Democratic Party on Sunday as Alhaji Umaru Kawbo A.A( Jarman Sokoto) and the immediate past Treasurer of the party, Murtala Abdulkadir Dan Iya dump party for the All Progressives Congress.
Kwabo’s defection along his followers to the opposition APC in the state had long been rumoured and speculated , a development that has rested all political doubts to open a new chapter of hope for the Senator Wamakko led party in the caliphate.
The duo announced their defection to the APC with their supporters in their hundreds of thousands as they described the ruling PDP in the state as a party which has lost grounds due to injustice, non fulfilment of promises and refusal to carry people along.
Declaring further, Abdulkadir Dan Iya who urged their supporters to close ranks and ensure their votes go for APC candidates from top to bottom, added” at the top, we should all voted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all National Assembly candidates while at the state level, our votes should go to Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.”
It is alleged that Alhaji Kwabo ,a dogged political stalwart had not been on the same page with Governor Tambuwal for some time over political issues including appintments.
Kwabo a former political ally of former governor Attahiru Bafarawa , is also the political mentor and god- father of Muhammad Manir Dan Iya, deputy to Tambuwal had overtime been sidelined including refusal to carry him along in appointments as non of his supporters has been offered any political appointment in Tambuwal’s cabinet especially Special Assistants appointments.
However , Tambuwal’s deputy, Manir Dan Iya who was tipped to fly the ticket of the party as his successor was also denied same at the 11th hour , a scenario that further hatched serious concerns in the camp of Kwabo especially his teeming supporters and sympathisers who vowed to engage in anti party activities against the party’s eventual candidate, Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma.
