Reforms in the education sector under the administration of Governor Uba Sani are yielding tangible results, with Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, recording significant progress in programme accreditation, infrastructure development, and student welfare.
The Rector of the Institution, Engr. Muhammad Kabir Abdullah, disclosed this while receiving a team of journalists during a facility tour of the polytechnic in Zaria, Kaduna State.
He said sustained support from the Kaduna State Government has enabled the institution to secure accreditation for several new programmes from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
The newly accredited courses include National Diploma in Law, Artificial Intelligence, National Certificate in Education, and Supply and Procurement, among others—bringing the total number of accredited programmes offered by the polytechnic to about Seventy.
Engr. Abdullah noted that since Governor Uba Sani assumed office, the institution has witnessed notable improvements in funding, academic expansion, recruitment of academic and non academic staff and infrastructure, reflecting the administration’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education.
Speaking during the tour, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said the government’s investments in education are part of a broader strategy of Governor Uba Sani’s reform agenda to improve education and create employment opportunities aimed to ultimately provide jobs for young people with relevant, employable skills and address the root causes of conflict and insecurity across the state.
“This effort is aimed at producing graduates with the competencies required in the labour market, thereby reducing unemployment and youth restiveness,” the Commissioner said.
Also speaking, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Abubakar Buhari, commended the state government for initiatives aimed at improving student welfare, particularly the renovation of hostels at the polytechnic and the 50 percent reduction in tuition fees across state-owned tertiary institutions.
He described the measures as a major relief for students and their families, noting that improved hostel facilities and reduced fees have expanded access to higher education and enhanced students’ living conditions.
The SUG President assured that students of the institution would continue to support the policies and programmes of the Kaduna State Government aimed at strengthening education and improving the learning environment across the state.
