Insecurity: Bandits kill 4, abduct 18 others in Sokoto village attack

The Sokoto state police command confirms the killing of 4 persons and abduction of 18 others by bandits in Giyawa village of Goronyo local government area.

It was gathered that many villagers had fled to other neighbouring communities for safety

Goronyo local government is in the Eastern Senatorial District where banditry has continued to threaten the lives of residents.

The command according to a statement Thursday said the suspected bandits also carted away valuables including livestock belonging to the villagers.

Further confirming the incident , the Command PPRO, Ahmed Rufa’i in the statement said seven of the earlier abducted persons later escaped from the captors and returned to their community where many residents have already fled for safety.

But contrary to the figure released by the police , sources from the affected community claimed over 30 persons were abducted.

Meanwhile, the police said only 11 persons were still in captivity.

Rufa’i said the police were on the trail of the fleeing bandits as the command was on top of the situation to ensure normalcy returned in the affected community.
