Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) received Committee of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the issue of encroaching right of way for transmission lines.
In a statement Signed by Nuhu Garba Dan’ayamaka (Public Relations Executive,PRE),
KASUPDA, made available to news men revealed tha.
Director General of the Authority, Mal. Isma’il Umaru Dikko, represented by the Director of Building permits, TPL. Bello Musa reiterated the readiness of KASUPDA to support and collaborate with organisations towards achieving goals of planning for development.
The DG’s representative said for safety of lives and properties, KASUPDA removed structures built under or close to high tension lines without the authority’s approval in Rigachikun and Barkallahu areas.
He further noted that, the authority will not relent on its mandate of ensuring daily monitoring of developments in the state.
In remarks some of the management staff emphasised on the need for TCN to have signposts that will indicate their properties so as to avoid encroachment.
Leader of the delegation who is the Regional Manager of TCN, Engr. Aminu Haruna, represented by member of the Committee, Engr. (Dr) Abubakar M. Abdul Azeez said they visited to discuss with relevant agencies and other stakeholders on the problem of encroaching transmission lines.
The TCN Regional Manager noted that the committee was constituted to go round all the states to discuss and find the way forward.
He stressed the need for collaborative effort with KASUPDA and all professionals and other stakeholders to ensure safety of lives and property in the country.
The General Manager, Health safety and Environment (HSE) of TCN, Mr. Cephas Kangeh said encroaching right of way for transmission lines was a source of concern nation wide.
Mr. Kangeh said that a lot of lives and property are being lost as a result of the encroaching transmission lines in different states across the nation.
He recalled one of the incidents which occurred in Calabar, Cross River State where more than sixty (60) people lost their lives on the spot while watching a football game.
Mr. Cephas Kangeh commended Kaduna State Government on the passionate commitment of His Excellency, Governor Mallam Nasiru El-Rufa’i for implementation of urban planning in the state.
