Northwest states resolve against bandits, kidnappers, other crimes, vow to make axis toxic zone for perpetrators – Aliyu Sokoto

Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, the Sokoto state governor has said that governments of Sokoto, Katsina , Zamfara, Kebbi , Kaduna in the northwest and Niger in the north central have taken steps to nip in the bud, the menace of insecurity being perpetrated by bandits, kidnappers and other criminals threatening the peace and means of livelihood of its citizens.

He said lots of lives, property and genuine businesses especially farming have been under serious siege and attacks over time by bandits, kidnappers and other crime perpetrators in the states.

Aliyu Sokoto said in Sokoto following days of meeting held in Katsina , the Katsina state capital
by some northwest governors on the security challenges fast weighing down the states.

According to the governor, the meeting resolved to extensively get more committed by engaging measures to brace security agencies operations in the states.

” We have all agreed to be more proactive by engaging trained community and neighbourhood guards to strengthen our security agencies at combating especially bandits and kidnappers activities within the axis.

” Already, Katsina state have taken steps, Zamfara has followed suit, So is Sokoto which is working on same plan as Kebbi , Kaduna and Niger which are on same pedestal to all make these states toxic destination for these elements whose conscience have failed their faiths for the dastardly acts”, he explained .

” We have all simultaneously come together to pilot measures that would practically terminate their activities because if only one state takes measures, they move to the next neighbouring state.

” All these states have common border link with one another that is why we have to meet and ensure we simultaneously approach the menace at same time through more committed efforts “, he stressed.

Meanwhile , the state government had on Tuesday, came up with a 25 member committee under retired Col. Garba Moyi with a five term of reference for the immediate establishment of a community guards outfit to work along with security agencies across the 23 LGs of the state.
