Sokoto CP, Kaigama vows to protect rights of citizens, lauds Sokoto NUJ

Mr. Ali Kaigama , the Sokoto state Commissioner of Police at the weekend said he will remain resilient , professionally focused and undeterred in protecting the rights of individuals in the state.

Kaigama gave his reassuring words while delivering a goodwill message at the NUJ Sokoto state Council congress meeting.

He said the security of lives and property of the public was imperative as it connects with the rights of individuals irrespective of divide, hence the command’s commitment to it constitutional role and duties for a secured Sokoto state.

Kaigama further expressed appreciation and satisfaction while acknowledging the instrumental and good working relations between the council and the state command as he reassured residents of his readiness to protect their rights without fear or favour.

Also, Abubakar Mohammed Sokoto while delivering a paper titled: ” Mass Media and National Security in Nigeria: Balancing Professional Ethics with National Interest”, tasked practicing journalists to consistently put the interest of the nation first in their reportage.

Mohammed Sokoto who is of the Sociology Department, Usmanu Danfodiyo University , Sokoto also tasked on the need to always verify news items before going to press to avoid or reduce the spread of fake news.

Accoridngly, in his remarks, Sambo Bello Danchadi, the state Commissioner of Information assured of the state government support to working journalists in the state to enable them discharge their professional responsibilities to the citizens.

” This will further strengthen a robust cordial relations and ensure professional confidence .”

Danchadi also called on practicing journalists across the country to dwell more on developmental journalism inorder to give hope to the citizens and government towards building a prosperous nation.

In his brief remarks, the State Chairman of the union , Dalhatu Abdullahi said the congress was hinged on fast tracking a responsive review of issues relating to the workings and operations of its members in the state.

He also appealed to members to renew their identity cards while stressing on them to be objective in their reportage with strict adherence to the professional ethics.
