Barely ten days to the governorship polls, the Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto state on Thursday preached to its supporters to mobilise themselves and make every sacrifice possible just for the party’s victory in the state upcoming governorship election on March 11.
The party wowed not to leave any stone unturned to ensure it retains power in the state by all means humanly possible.
The party’s stand was made clear at an emergency stakeholders meeting where it state chairman Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo said ” we are prepared to defend our votes by all means and will not be intimidated .
” This is a battle which we have to come all out against any attempt to attack us.We are not afraid.”
The Director General , PDP governorship campaign council and former Minister of Transport, Yusuf Suleiman said despite the seeming threat to use security agencies by the opposition APC to rob the party of its popular support, ” we remain firm and determined not to allow the space for APC to make impact.
” Sokoto PDP will rise in defence of its popularity and survival “, he stressed with optimism.
In the same vein, former deputy governor, Mukhtari Shagari who inspired the political spirit of supporters while urging them to remain resilient noted that the issue of inconclusiveness of elections in Sokoto state was not alien hence called for people of the state to rally the party for victory.
Accordingly , Shagari said ” elections are not won on a platter of gold except if the umpire and other stakeholders were transparent, just and sincere else you have to struggle for it”
The former Water Resources Minister appealed to party leaders to demonstrate the trust Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal bestowed on them in handling the distribution of campaign items meant for supporters and party members.
” These things are meant to mobilise support and vote for the party to win the governorship and legislative elections not for a leader to convert for personal use in his or her house”, he explained.
Similarly, the party governorship running mate , Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa who enlightened supporters and electorates to pay more attention on BVAS ,said ” you must be sure that the machine is activated from point zero so as to discourage any attempt of rigging by officials.”
In his remark, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who expressed confidence and optimism that PDP will defeat its opponents in the state governorship election urged supporters and entire Sokoto people to be calm and vigilant in defending their votes to the latter.
” Don’t be threatened or be intimidated by anyone and don’t move an inch after voting wait and protect your vote until it counts.”
