Sokoto: REC confirms arrival of sensitive materials , says 5 BVAS faulty

The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC in Sokoto state has confirmed receiving delivery of all sensitive materials for onward distribution to respective LGs for Saturday’s election.

The commission also confirms 5 BVAS faulty.

Although, it confirmed that elections would not hold in 8 out of the 3,991 polling units in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner , Dr. Nura Ali told reporters on Wednesday during inspection and confirmation of the materials before deployment to respective destinations between today and Friday latest.

Ali said the materials included BVAS, ballot papers, results sheets, collation forms among others.

” All the materials for Presidential, National Assembly and governorship and state assembly polls have been received.”

Ali however, disclosed that 5 out of the 3991 BVAS were discovered to be faulty and had since been returned to INEC headquarters for replacement while confirming that the machines were effective for the exercise.

” We equally have back up BVAS to avoid disappointment in the course of elections exercise”, he explained.

The inspection and confirmation process conducted at the premises of the state branch of the CBN was witnessed by heads of security agencies, political parties representatives , foreign observers , registered CSOs and the media.

Accordingly, the REC disclosed that it has rounded off the recruitment and training of all adhoc staff for the election exercise ” we put them on test after the training and selected the best to conduct the exercise” , Ali further confirmed.

He said the commission was closely working on daily and routine basis with security agencies to ensure security of the entire process before , during and after the elections.

According to Ali ” we have been availed of the daily and routine operations and deployment rosters of security agencies on duty for the exercise.”

He said the commission was fully prepared for a peaceful , free , fair and credible elections divulging that INEC will respectfully commence the exercise by 8:am as scheduled.
