The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, has assured that the armed forces are ready to defend the nation at all costs.
General Oluyede, represented by Major General MS Ahmed, made this known during the inauguration of a large-scale educational center for children and adults built by a senior military officer, Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade, in his hometown of Chinade in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Friday.
The Chief of Staff added that the responsibility to protect the lives and property of the people of the country lies with them and they will not fail to fulfill their responsibilities at any cost.
He therefore appealed to the people of the country to support them in carrying out their duties successfully.
He also commended their senior officer, Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade, for his work in helping his people, even though the military administration also contributed to the success of this joint effort as they have a similar system in place to support any senior military officer of the rank of Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade in carrying out development projects for the people.
Speaking at the outset of his mission to build a massive educational institution with 6 classrooms, 2 dormitories and others for his people in Chinade, Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade said that the reason for this is to fulfill his responsibility to contribute to his people as he himself was given free education from primary up to secondary school.
He added that it has been almost three years since he launched a foundation to provide scholarships to students and so far over 200 students have benefited from this initiative.
He also thanked the Chief of army Staff for giving him the courage to carry out this project and thanked the Bauchi State Government, the Highness the Emir of Katagum and the Katagum Local Government Council for their support in carrying out this project.
He also thanked his people of his hometown Chinade for their support and the district head of Chinade for the successful completion of this project, especially due to their prayers.
In his speech the Emir of Katagum, Dr. Alhaji Umar Faruq Muhammad 11, represented by the Ubandoma of Katagum Emirate commends Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade for his efforts in carrying out his duties towards his people, including the construction of this school.
He also called on other communities in the emirate to emulate his efforts to continue contributing to the community, especially in the areas of education, youth employment and others.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Chinade and the students who benefited from this initiative, Alhaji Sa’ad Bawa Chinade, a former Permanent Secretary in Bauchi State, commended the efforts of Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade, who he conveyed to him the gratitude of the entire community of Chinade.
The Member of the State House of assembly representing Chinade and Madara constuency in Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Ala, in his speech expressing gratitude for the charitable work done by Major General Aminu Shehu, said that the general had indeed shown himself to be a hero for doing a such project and that they were confident that the general would continue to do similar work for his people in the future.
He also assured that the Bauchi State government would continue to support this school at all costs so that everything runs smoothly and that he would also strive to provide security guards at this school to ensure that things do not go wrong.
The host of the event, ambassador jibrin Dada Chinade, also expressed his great satisfaction over the great work done by their son, Major General Aminu Shehu, wishing him well and challenging the youth to emulate the example of General Aminu Shehu in carrying out development projects for their people.
