Climate Change: Religious Leaders in Kaduna Rally for Rainfall to Save Failing Crops and Curb Food Crisis

 

In response to the ongoing climate crisis, drought affecting crops in northern Nigeria ,

A Christian cleric, Pastor (Dr.) Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, has called on religious leaders across kaduna state to unite in continuous prayers for rainfall.

He urged both Muslim and Christian clerics in the 23 local government areas to pray fervently for rain to alleviate the worsening situation for farmers.

Pastor (DR) Buru highlighted the severe impact of climate change and drought on this year’s rainfall, leading to widespread distress among farmers.

Reports from across the state reveal that many crops are wilting and turning yellow due to the lack of sufficient rain.

During a conversation with journalists after sharing take away food to some needy , Pastor(Dr) Buru stressed that numerous local farmers have invested heavily in their fields, anticipating a bountiful harvest, but now face the grim reality of potential crop failure due to water scarcity.

He emphasized the need for prayers and fasting to address this crisis.

The Christian cleric also noted that the rising cost of food has driven many youths and citizens to take up farming despite the challenges posed by insecurity in the state.

He called on all clerics in Kaduna to join in praying for rain to save the farmers’ crops from ruin.

Pastor (Dr) Buru is committed to mobilizing more religious leaders to keep up the prayers for rain, hoping to secure a fruitful harvest for local farmers.

In addition, Pastor(dr) Buru praised the Kaduna State government for distributing 15,000 tons of free fertilizer to 120,000 smallholder farmers across the state’s 23 local government areas.

He also appealed to the government to provide further support during the dry season to prevent any food shortages.

Similarly, an Islamic scholar Alaramma Ibrahim Musa has urged both Muslims and Christians to intensify their prayers for rain.

He stressed the importance of continued supplication to ensure that farmers can grow enough food to combat hunger and address the escalating cost of foodstuffs.

Alaramma Musa reminded the community that God hears their prayers and emphasized the need to pray for a successful harvest.

He also called for increased education on modern farming techniques and support for mechanized agriculture to mitigate the effects of climate change and food scarcity.
