Kaduna NLC Obeys Directive to Shelve Planned Protest ,Strike

…Urges workers, Unions ,Citizens to remain calm

In compliance with directive to shelve the planned protest and strike scheduled to hold in the State today , the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) ,Kaduna State Council urged all it affiliates to obey the directive of the National body and wait for next line of acting pending outcome of National Working Committee .

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had scheduled today, September 28 for a nationwide rally to protest increases in the prices of petrol and electricity.

However, the unions suspended the strike and rally after a late-night meeting with a federal government team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They also resolved to review their decision in another two weeks to see if their agreement with the government is being complied with.

Addressing members of unions ,who converges on the Medical and Healthy Workers Union of Nigeria ,Kaduna State office , the Kaduna NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman ,who relayed the official message to shelve the planned protest and strike prevailed on Union members to obey the directive and decision.

“As you can see, we have mobilised our members across the 23 local government areas to participate in planned protest and strike ,but we are left with no option than to obey the directive to shelve it”.

“We have instruction from the National Secretariat to suspend the planned twin actions; the strike and the peaceful protest.

“The message came to us this morning ,as you see ,you can to the fact that we are ready ,we are ground and we the capacity to mobilise Kaduna workers and masses for the protest .

” After negotiations between government and the labour unions at National level , the planned protest and strike was shelved .We gathered reliably that the congress has called for Central Working Committee meeting by 4pm today .

“I want to believe that the CWC will meet today peruse the agreement and come with a resolution on the next line of action .

” As a State Congress ,we don’t have much to do than to abide by the instruction if the National Secretariat and wait for the outcome of the CWC .

The NLC Chairman however, gave assurance of adequate representation if a meeting is called.

He also commended all the Union members for their courage ,solidarity and support.
