Security: Sen Wamakko donates 105 motorcycles to Vigilantes in 21 Sokoto LGs
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, on Sunday, donated one hundred and five motorcycles to Vigilante Groups 0f Nigeria in twenty one Local Governments of Sokoto State.
Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, announced the invaluable gesture in Tangaza Local Government when he paid separate condolence and sympathy visits to the District Heads of Tangaza and Gidan Madi, as well as the entire people of the area .
The condolence visits were sequel to the recent killings of the Tangaza Divisional Police Officer and an Inspector by bandits, as well as scores of cases of kidnapping of innocent citizens in the local government.
This is contained in a Press statement signed by Bashir Rabe Mani, Dan Masanin Mani,Special Assistant, Media and Publicity,to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Wamakko explained that, the gesture was aimed at complementing the efforts of the vigilantes , in assisting the security agencies to combat the various security challenges in state.
He decried : ” Kidnapping for ransom is unbecoming and reprehensible.The Federal Government is putting all measures in place to effectively tackle the security challenges facing the country.
” The federal government is also taking plausible steps to overhaul the nation’s security architecture.”
Wamakko, also a former Governor of the state stated that, each of the vigilante groups in the twenty one local governments will be given five motorcycles.
However, the Lawmaker disclosed that, the vigilante groups in the Metropolitan Sokoto North and Sokoto South local governments will be given a special package.
” This is all in an attempt to facilitate the routine efforts of the vigilantes in fighting crimes and criminality in the state, ” Senator Wamakko, averred.
He called on the party leaders in the areas to be just and fair in the distribution of the motorcycles, irrespective of political party differences, so as to bolster the fight against criminality .
Wamakko further appealed to the people of the state, to always furnish the security agencies with useful and credible intelligence reports, with a view to nip crimes in the bud.
He also condoled the entire people of the affected areas of Tangaza, Binji Silame, Wamakko, Isa, Sabon Birni, Rabah, Wurno, Tureta, Dange Shuni, Kebbe, Bodinga and Ilela local governments, among other affected local governments of the state.
He vowed to variously visit the affected areas, to sympathize with the family members of the victims.
Responding, District Head of Gidan Madi , Ausan Gidan Madi, Alh. Shehu Sarkin Ausa and the Representative of the District Head of Tangaza, Marafan Tangaza, AlhajiIsyaka Marafa, thanked Senator Wamakko for the gesture.
The duo assured him of their total support towards revealing any suspicious movements in their domains, while they prayed the Almighty Allah to reward the Senator abundantly.
Meanwhile, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko had made a stop over at the Gidan Madi Police station where the Divisional Police Officer and the Police Inspector were killed by the unknown gunmen in a gun duel, last week.
Wamakko described the late DPO and the Inspector as humble and dedicated Offic2er who always took their duty very passionate and diligently.
Senator Wamakko also condoled with AIG Zone 10,M. A. Mustapha Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Kaoje and the families of the deceased Officers, just as he pledged to extend his widow’s mite to their survivors.
Senator Wamakko was earlier received by Inspector Yahaya Lawal, who is in charge of the Crime Unit in the station.
Lawal lauded Senator Wamakko for the visit, even as he beseeched the Almighty Allah to reward him bountifully.
Wamakko was earlier welcomed by APC leaders of Binji and Tangaza local government areas.
He was accompanied on the visit by the Executive Secretary, Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto FCNA, APC Chairman in the State, Hon. Isah Sadiq Achida and other party executives .
Others were business mogul in the state, Alhaji Yahaya Buhari Siriddawa, retired Permanent Secretaries, Aminu Dikko, Sulaiman S. Fulani Ahmadu and Hussaini Gorau, among other important dignitaries.
