Ensuring the security of lives and properties of citizens in Katsina State will be the focal point in drawing the 2024 budget.
Other critical areas that will attract the attention of government are improved and enhanced revenue generation through exploring available windows and blocking revenue leakages as well as improving the rural economy of the state.
This was disclosed by the commissioner of Budget and Economic planning, Alhaji Bello Kagara in an exclusive interview with newsmen in Katsina during the weekend.
Alhaji Bello Kagara said the emphasis on security is premised on the resolution of the government to provide secured and peaceful environment so that citizens can move around peacefully and conduct their business without fear of criminal attacks throughout the state.
Recall that Governor Dikko Radda has said, times without number and at any available fora that he will approach insecurity within all available means because of his belief that without security nothing works in the state or anywhere.
The governor has shown practical commitment last week when he launched Katsina State Community Watch Corps, (security outfit of about 1,500 trained personnel) and equiped with them through provision of logistic vehicles that include about 70 Hillux trucks and about 700 motorcycles as well as Amoured Personnel Carriers, APCs;
It is important to note that the government will have to maintained the tempo of fighting insecurity in the state to succeed in delivering on its mandate and fulfil its election promises to the populace.
This goes down to looking for funds to maintain the tempo, wich translates to the need for more revenue for the o. .government.mmkmmmmkkkk
The government will focus attention in utilising all sources of revenue and block all leakages to ensure that all revenues due to government go to the government.
Government agencies and agents responsible for revenue generation will be reawakened to their responsibilities to upscale collection and remittance so that every taxable citizen in Katsina State contribute his quota towards the development of the state, the commissioner emphasised.
Kagara explained that the government will evolve an economic strategy to empower women and youth to engage in meaningful businesses, most especially at the lower level of the society, especially in agriculture and small scale business holding in the state.
This is with a view to improve source income to citizens build the their purchasing capacities which will surely propel the economy of the state.
The commissioner further called on the people to realise that the development of the state can only be done by them as no one from somewhere will build Katsina State for them.
