In a noteworthy gesture of solidarity, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry in Kaduna, has expressed his admiration for the proactiveness of the Kano State Hisbah Board in addressing issues related to immorality propagated by social media influencers in the state and across Northern Nigeria.
Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru lauded the Kano State Hisbah Board, specifically acknowledging the leadership of Sheik Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, for their effective monitoring and intervention in curbing the activities of social media influencers that have the potential to promote immorality and deviate from our cultural and African traditions.
Stressing the importance of a collaborative approach, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru urged for a collective effort in instilling discipline and promoting the positive cultures of Africa, discouraging the dissemination of negative content on social media platforms. He emphasized the need to unite in shaping values and educating children about the significance of cultural preservation.
Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru and his team of pastors unequivocally expressed their support for Sheik Daurawa’s initiatives aimed at addressing the influence of TikTokers and social media influencers promoting foreign cultures.
In addition, they highlighted the importance of state governments actively monitoring and regulating citizens’ content-sharing activities, particularly those that propagate immorality. The Christian clerics underscored the crucial role of government and stakeholders in raising public awareness about the detrimental effects of explicit content on platforms like TikTok.
The commendation comes several months after Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander-General of the Board, extended an invitation to female TikTokers in Kano for an interactive session, showcasing a collaborative and inclusive approach to address the concerns raised.
Pastor George John echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the necessity for the federal government to establish a regulatory commission capable of overseeing social media affairs in the country. He underscored the importance of government intervention in preventing the dissemination of content that could potentially disrupt peace and stability in the nation.
In his concluding remarks, Pastor George John reiterated, “Every individual is a citizen journalist,” highlighting the shared responsibility among the public in maintaining ethical standards and promoting positive content in the digital realm.
