All is now set for the End-of-year and Award events of the Police Community Relations Committee , PCRC , National headquarters , Abuja, as the Governor of Ogun State and the First Lady of Edo State , Betsy Godwin Obaseki , made the list of Awardees .
According to a statement jointly signed by the Deputy National Secretary and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee , Amb. Austen Yong and Ven. Dr. Samson Popoola , respectively , the events will kick off with a Jumaat Prayer on December 3 at the Mosque of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria Utako, Abuja and a Thanksgiving service at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre , Lugbe , Abuja .
This will be followed by inspections , verifications and commissioning of PCRC projects nationwide on December 6, prelude to the lecture and award presentations at 11:00hrs on December 8 , at the Goodluck Jonathan International Peace Keeping Conference Hall , Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the statement, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police , Mr Austin Iwar will present the Guest Lecture, with the theme, ” The Value of Police – Community Partnership in Community- Oriented Policing .”
The statement indicated that dignitaries expected at the occasion , which will be chaired by Rtd. IGP Musiliu Smith and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, include: The Minister of Police Affairs , Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund , Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, among others.
In an update earlier released to its members , the organising committee said there were three categories of the awardees; namely: PCRC, Police and the public .
The committee said that the names of the awardees , especially in the PCRC Category will be unveiled at the floor of the event .
The committee said,” this is the first PCRC Award at the national level in 37 years and members of the public selected for the awards reflected the desire of the PCRC for improved living condition of the populace , security, and police community integration .”
According to the release , the star-award for the day will be given to the His Royal Highness , Oba David Okunato, the OSI of Akure North , who donated 2.6 hectares of land to the police. He also single handedly built 12 administrative blocks to ensure that one of the new Zonal Commands created in 2020, Zone 17, commenced operations successfully.
They said that the purpose of the Jumaat prayer and the Thanksgiving services was to to thank God for the year 2021, pray for the police , PCRC and their families.
” They are also aimed at introducing the workings of the PCRC to religious groups in Nigeria and urge them to partner with the police, in line with community policing practice .”
Other awardees at the event include: The Governors of Anambra State, His Excellency ,Chief Willie Obianor, Governor of Kano State , His Excellency, Abdullahi Ganduje , who both honoured PCRC events in 2016, Dangote and Rochas Okorocha Foundations.
