SENATOR WAMAKKO WARNS RESIDENTS ON FLOODING

Residents of Sokoto state have been urged to take precautionary measures ahead of the predicted flooding in some parts of the state by the Nigerian Meteorology Agency.

The call was made by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko during the launch hosted at his Gawon Nama residence shortly after returning from the Eid-El-Kabir praying ground.

Recently, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency has raised the alarm over the possibility of cholera and other waterborne disease outbreaks in several states in 2025 due to anticipated heavy rainfall and flooding.

In its 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction, NiMET identified Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Cross River, Abia, and Akwa Ibom as states most at risk, especially in flood-prone areas with poor sanitation practices.

In the north, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno states are expected to see 110 to 150 rainy days.

Given the foregoing, however, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, advised the public to ensure adherence to the announcement released by NIMET to have a safe and better society.

Senator Wamakko said he had the experience of what it takes on the issue of flooding as he was the state Governor during the 2010 devastating flooding in Sokoto.

He called on the public, especially those residing near waterways, to either move or ensure the place was accessible to the water when they came.

Senator Wamakko thanked the public for their continued fervent prayers for the success of the administration.

Mallam Nafi’u Malami Dan Haja offered a Special prayer during the launch.

Many personalities have attended the launch; among them are the Minister of Labor and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of State Works Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, and Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Chuso Abdullahi Dattijo, among others.
