Senator Yar’adua Organises Sensitisation On The Surge of Drugs

Over 250 people associated with drugs abuse have been arrested in Katsina State from January to date this year by the NDLEA

Similarly, 930 people ranging from 15 to 63 years were arrested in 2023, while 567 Kg of assorted drugs had been intercepted by the Agency,

Out of the number arrested, 856 have been rehabilitated in which 50 of them were females.

The State Commandant of the NDLEA Alhaji Hassan Sani Abubakar disclosed this at a Cultural and Moral Sensitisation of Youth Council Against the Surge of Drugs and Cultism in the 11 LGAs of Katsina Central Senatorial District.

He therefore applauded the Senator’s action for organising the programme and the collaboration, adding that the NDLEA is proud of him.

In a statement signed by the Media Aide to the Senator, Muhammad Lawal Gwanda and made available to newsmen, 110 Youth selected from the 11 LGAs of the Senatorial District participated in the Programme.

The Programme which was conducted on Wednesday at the Conference Hall of the State CSC was sponsored by Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua

This was to draw the attention of youth on dangers associated with drugs abuse and involve them in the crusade against the scourge socially and morally.

In a speech, the Senator represented by his Senior Aide Alhaji Tanimu Garba Abdulkadir explained that the sensitisation became necessary considering the escalation of drugs consumption amongst the youth, which in future would make them nuisance in the society.

The Senator charged parents to avoid over protecting their children or wards, but always monitor their activities particularly peer groups they associated with, and make them busy by involving them in their daily businesses.

Senator Yar’adua however restated commitment to continue collaborating with the NDLEA and other related bodies in the fight against the surge of Drugs Abuse in the society.

He charged the participants to use this opportunity to educate those that were not opportuned to participate in the Programme.

Islamic Scholars like Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil K/Bai, Sheikh Muhammad Hadi Balarabe and Sheikh Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Yammawa presented Islamic lectures related to good, the bad and the ugly life.

At the end of the Programme, each of the 110 participants received N30,000 for easy transportation back home.
