The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, has elected a new set of 7 member executives to pilot ist affairs for the next 3 years.
Three positions of Chairman , Secretary and Treasurer were keenly contested while the remaining four positions of Vice Chairman , Financial Secretary , Assistant Secretary and Auditor were unopposed in the Wednesday free, fair ,credible and transparent process.
The contest ended with Ankeli Emmanuel of National Accord newspapers emerging as Chairman to defeat Ismail Umar of VON (English Service) with 18 votes against 9, Musa Ubandawaki beat Adeniyi Olugbemi to clinch the position of Secretary while Umar Danladi Ado picked the position of Treasurer after defeating Innocent Onuminya.
Those who emerged unopposed include Adamu Suleiman of The Nation newspapers( Vice Chairman), Olakunle Maruf of Tribune newspapers (Assistant Secretary), Muhammad Ibrahim Goronyo of Aljazirah newspapers (Financial Secretary) and Shafa’atu Suleiman of The Sun newspapers as Auditor.
In his post election speech, Ankeli Emmanuel, commended chapel members for the peaceful conduct of the election. He pledged to promote unity, transparency, and productivity within the chapel.
The NUJ Sokoto State Council Chairman, Usman Binji, lauded the credential committee for the orderly, peaceful and smooth electoral process. He urged the new executives to foster inclusivity and collaboration among members while aligning with the broader objectives of the state council.
Binji further expressed confidence in the chapel’s ability to uphold and promote ethical conduct that reflect professionalism and journalistic standards for deserving members 66 recognition for their work.
Earlier, Chairman of the Credential Committee, Abdullah El-Kurebe, had assured contestants of the committee’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election. He emphasized that unity within the chapel remains a top priority.
