Sokoto Rerun : PDP clinches two seats , APC 1 in Saturday rerun

Candidates of the People’s Democratic Party’s in Sokoto state have won two out of the three seats contested in the Saturday rerun elections.

The main opposition party candidates for Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency, Umar Yusuf and that of the state assembly for Bodinga North , Hantsi Sule Romo defeated their opponents at the smooth, free, fair and credible contest having polled the highest number of votes aggregate as declared by the Independent Electoral Commission on Sunday .

However, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Tambuwal West state assembly , Dahiru Bashir Ahmed defeated his opponent to emerge winner.

Announcing the results, Returning Officer Professor Abubakar Abdullahi-Bagudo said Umar Yusuf of the PDP has won the election, haven satisfied the requirement of the law.

Yusuf who despite polling 2,249 votes defeated his arc rival of the Abubakar Umar of the APC who got 3,741 votes.

The winner had in the substantive election scored 24,792 against Umar’s 22,472.

Mr. Yusuf of the PDP defeated his rival Abubakar Umar of the All Progressives Congress APC despite scoring lesser votes of 2249 votes in the rerun election compared to the APC candidate Abubakar Umar who scored a total of 3741 votes.

But the PDP candidate had led the APC candidate in the substantive election with a total votes of 24792 against 22,472.

However, Yusuf was declared winner with an aggregate votes of 27,042 while Umar scored 25,738 votes.

Similarly, the Commission declared
of the All Progressives Congress as winner of the rerun election for Tambuwal west state assembly.

The Returning officer , Professor Bayero Bukkuyum Kasim announced that Ahmed scored a total of 19,315 votes to beat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hantsi Sule Romo who polled a total number of 19,021 votes.

Also, the Returning Officer for the rerun election of Bodinga North state assembly, Professor Farouk Tambuwal, announced Magaji Abubakar of the PDP as the winner of the election with a total votes of 6,488 votes after defeating Yusuf Marafa Danchadi of APC who polled 5,893 votes.

According to Tambuwal ” having satisfied the requirements of the law, Magaji Abubakar of the PDP is hereby declared the winner is returned elected”
