Wamakko mourns victims of Kebbi boat mishap

 

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has expressed rude shock over the capsizing of a boat in Wara, Ngaski Local Government of Kebbi State, resulting in the feared death of no fewer than one hundred pesons.

In a statement Signed by Bashir Rabe Mani, Senior Special Assistant,Media and Publicity, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, made available to journalist in Kaduna.

 

The ill-fated boat was said to have capsized on Wednesday,on River Niger, while it was believed to have carried no fewer than one hundred and sixty passengers, including men, women, children and the elderly .

The vicitms were said to have been travelling to a market when the unfortunate incident occured .

Efforts were reported to be on by divers to recover all the drowned passengers , with only twenty two of the victims alresdy rescued and taken to hospitals for treatment, while a dead body was also recovered .

Reacting to the sad development, Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, described it as very unfortunate, saddening and shocking.

He prayed for the safe recovery of the yet to be found victims, as well as the speedy recovery of those already salvaged.

Wamakko also prayed the Almighty Allah to grant the souls of the deceased Aljannat Firdaus, and give their various families ,people and Government of Kebbi State, the formidable fortitude to bear the irreparable losses .

He also promised that , the National Assembly would soon do the needful, by making Nigerian waters more safer for travels and all maritime activities .

He bemoaned the recurrence of such obnoxious and fatal incidents in Sokoto, Kebbi and Niger States, as well as other parts of the country, usually resulting in heavy casualties.
