Sokoto state Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto says his administration will provide a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere that will guarantee optimum results for excellence in the Sokoto state University.
Aliyu Sokoto gave the assurance in Sokoto Wednesday during a maiden courtesy visit paid on him by the top management echelons of the Sokoto state University led by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba.
The Governor said he would drive a purposeful synergy inorder to develope the basic and essential infrastructure needs of the university, pointing out that his government will remain a listening system that would always welcome objective criticism for positive action plans.
” We will give attention to the welfare and related needs of the institution.
” We will do our best towards addressing salaries issue of visiting lecturers and those on sabbatical respectively”
He noted that education was an instrumental aspect that guarantees the development of any society , hence will not be toyed with by the new administration.
Earlier, Professor Garba told the Governor that the delegation was in Government House on two missions to congratulate him on his succesful inauguration and felicitate with him for attaining his PhD degree.
He said his emergence as governor was fast deserving haven met the requisite credentials braced by the long experience garnered over the years in many capacities through the ladder as public figure.
” I know who you are and how committed you have been towards rendering services in line with the various positions you held in the past before now”, he stressed.
However, the Vice Chancellor who seized the space to present the governor with a congratulatory note souvenir, further recalled that the university was established a decade ago with an initial students population of 800 with 3 faculties for 23 foundation programmes.
Though, Professor Garba explained that the university was lagging behind in two special programmes of Engineering and Technology which necessitated it to fall back on engagement from either Kano or Kaduna and others.
” Today, it has 9000 students population , 4 faculties and a post graduate programme in addition to 39 Under Graduate programmes all fully accredited by the NUC.
” The institution is in its second phase of academic and infrastructural expansion and we want to bridge the gap to fully commence programmes in engineering as well doing everything humanly possible for the smooth take off of the university medical college accordingly “, he mentioned while wishing the governor and the new administration a successful tenure.
