Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has emerged the All Progressives Congress APC Governorship flagbearer in an overwhelming party primary where he stood as sole candidate for the post in the state.

The party primary which held at the Gusau city center Ahmadu Bello Sardauna Memorial Stadium today, Thursday, under very tight security cover was however conducted peacefully.
All the political bigwigs in the state were at the event to witness the exercise which had the full support and backing of former governors Ahmad Sani Yarima, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi, two former deputy governors, Muktar Ahmad Anka and Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, former and serving speakers of the state’s House of Assembly as well as former and current members of the state and national assemblies.
In his address the state Deputy Governor Senator Hassan Muhammad Nasiha who is the state APC local organising committee chairman for the election said governor Matawalle has unified the party making it more formidable and that he has built the confidence of all party members thereby the party will bring more development that can change the lives of many citizens for better
He called for more support and cooperation to the state government’s policies and programmes
Earlier in his welcome address the state APC Chairman Hon Tukur Umar Danfulani described the reconciliation of the party members as the success of the moment which will bring more development in the state at all levels
He commended governor Matawalle for the hard work and support he is giving for the progress of the party in the state
Matawalle who expressed satisfaction and gratitude to Allah over the exercise and his emergence, recalled that the efforts of all the party’s stakeholders especially the recent reconciliation of all groups which returned all under the same roof as a family have resulted into what had happened.
He thanked all the party leaders in the state especially his predecessor and former governor Yari and former Senator Kabiru Marafa for their commitment to the state and the APC and acceptance of the reconciliation initiative and assured them that their efforts and sacrifices will not be in vain.
The governor who also commended the APC leadership at both the state and national levels for registering with the political stability recorded in the state urged them to continue to mobilize more support for the party so that it will continue to bring the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
Also speaking, the team leader of the Gubernatorial election committee sent to Zamfara by the national leadership of the party, Hon. Babagana Tijjani Banki commended the maturity exhibited by the people of Zamfara in increasing the chances of the party and urged other states to emulate Zamfara for continuity, peace and development.
In their separate goodwill messages the two former governors, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi expressed satisfaction in the conduct of the primary elections and assured that the party will remain the only to beat in the state
He called on all members in the state to sustain the reconciliation and work hard for the success of the party in the coming elections
