Disturbed by the raging global Corona Virus Pandemic, some concerned Nigerians have urged Telecommunications Service Providers, to use Information, Communications , Technology ( ICT), to help in the ongoing fight against the dreaded disease.
Doing so, a cross of the concerned citizens averred, is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR).
According to them, the Telecoms have the financial and technical wherewithals to sensitize and enlighten their customers on the existence and preventive measures to be taken. –
The myriad of Respondents added, ” they should collaborate with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control( NCDC), to be updating Nigerians routinely.
” They can also initiate a program with the Miinistries of Information, as well as that of Communications and Digital Economy, to timely disseminate the various Information , Education and Communications to Nigerians.
” This tempo should be sustained as long as the circumstances occasioned by the obnoxious COVID19 lasted , while they should only be ceased when it eases out.”
The Respondents further urged that, Government should deploy the use of social media platforms like YouTube, Twitter, Instragram, Facebook and Whatsapp, among others, to fight the unfortunate pandemic.
They added, ” Majority of Nigerians have access to these social media platforms regularly .”
It could be recalled that, the United Nations ( UN), had in 2011 declared “Access to the Internet ,” as a Fundamental Human Right.
