Attempt to offer N800,000 bribe to Sokoto police operatives by three suspected criminals inorder to escape arrest has failed , the command confirmed on Tuesday.
The trio of Rufa’i Sani, Yusha’u Abubakar and Ahmad Bello attempted to offer the said amount during investigation.
Mr Ali Hayatu Kaigama , the state police Commissioner said in Sokoto at a briefing where he also confirmed the arrest of three suspected bandits and kidnappers.
He said the suspects were intercepted in a Sharon vehicle with registration No. KSG 356 EP, loaded with twelve roles of conductor aluminum wires reasonably suspected to have been vandalized and stolen from electrical poles, during investigation the suspects offered them the sum of N800,000,00K as bribe to enable them escape arrest.
According to Kaigama, the suspects also confessed to have stolen the said wires from electric poles located along Sanyinna road in Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto state.
” They also confessed to previously vandalized and stole conductor aluminum wires worth N17,189,750K at Sifawa in Bodinga LGA, Shagari LGA and Wamakko LGA respectively and sold same to one Ibrahim Abdullahi Danfata and Bello Sani Zamzam of Kwanni area, Sookoto. They were however arraigned to court”, he said.
Kaigama also disclosed that the command has rescued 6 victims of kidnap and banditry operation.
The command also recovered one AK49 rifle, two magazines loaded with 15 live ammunitions, a locally fabricated pistol with 12 rounds of live ammunitions, a Kasea motorcycle, and nine (9) GSM phones suspected to belong to the victims all in same operation.
The Commissioner of Police said his men traced the footprints of the hoodlums and victims towards Yabo, Sanyinna and Salami.
The suspected bandits arrested include : Aliyu Abubakr, Abdullahi Umar and Ayuba Magaji.
He said the suspected bandits invaded Yarabba and salah villages where four persons were kidnapped and one injured
Kaigama explained that the break-through was not unconnected with the intelligence driven policing strategy better being adopted by the command through aggressive patrols, raids of criminal hide outs and visibility policing community engagements.
He also confirmed the arrest of one Dauda Ahamad, a renowned bandit and kidnapper who has been terrorizing Runjin Sambo, Gidan Igwai, Gidan Dare and Kwalkwala area in Sokoto metropolis.
” The command anti kidnapping operatives from the SCID carried out the operation following a report by one Mustapha Ahamad of Runjin Sambo Federal Housing Estate,Sokoto.
” It took the operatives gun duel with members of Ahamad’s gang which in the process, 3 of them namely: Abubakar Isah, Samaila Aliyu and Abubakar Aminu were arrested”, Kaigama said.
while the state injured bandit rushed to UDUTH eventually gave up the ghost as confirmed by the hospital Doctor”, Kaigama said.
In the same vein, the police Commissioner disclosed that the command successfully nabbed a notorious criminal , Isah Abubakar of Shinaka village in Goronyo local government area in possession of a fabricated revolver gun.
Kaigama said Abubakar who has been terrorizing Goronyo, Wurno, Wamakko and Bodinga LGAs also conspired with one Bello Umar of Diddiba village in Wamakko LGA, invaded the house of one Bello Danjeka of Kulafasa village in Bodinga LGA and robbed him of his motor vehicle and a Golf 3 vehicle with registration number BLE 227 AA.
” While on the way to execute search warrant by the detectives in the house of the suspect(Abubakar) at Goronyo LGA he jumped out of the police moving vehicle and sustained serious injuries, he was rushed to UDUTH mine for treatment, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor”, the Police Commissioner said.
Accordingly, the command confirmed the recovery of live ammunition and motor cycles belonging to suspected bandits who abandoned and fled away following a hot chase by operatives in Gada and Gudu local government areas.
” They were sighted and suspected by the police on patrol. On seeing the police, they made a sudden U-turn and zoomed off but could not measure with the hot chase by our men and eventually abandoned the unregistered Kasea motorcycle and took to their heels.
” Also in Hus village in Gudu LGA, suspected bandits abandoned thier unregistered motorcycle and a bag while sighting the combined military , police and vigilante group who were tipped of an ongoing attack by bandits.
” On close search of the bag it was discovered that the bag was containing 390 rounds of AK47 rifle. We will not relent as manhunt of the suspects still ongoing”, he declared .
In a separate operation by the command, Kaigama said four suspects, Rabilu Abubakar, Sani Mohammed, Mustapha Zayyanu and Nura B. Mohammed all of Sokoto metropolis have been arrested for criminal conspiracy, robbery and attempt to commit homicide.
He said the suspects were sighted and looked suspicious by a team of Police on patrol along round about Mai ruwa, Kwannawa and Marina area, Sokoto.
” Upon investigation, one cyclist named Yusuf Mohammed ‘M’ Of Mabera Area Sokoto, identified one of the suspects Sani Mohammed Durbawa to have deceitfully conveyed him on motorcycle on 05/10/2023, at about 1900hrs from old airport area sokoto to Kasarawa area under the pretext to receive message, where he criminally conspired with the three other suspects in a red Gol vehicle along State University Sokoto who forcefully strangled him with a rope and dispossessed him of his Tecno phone, N7,000.00 and a boxer motorcycle valued N545,000.00K. The case is still under investigation please”, he said.
However, Kaigama said all the arrested suspects would be charged to court on their various kinds of offences accordingly while reiterating the command’s commitment to a crime free Sokoto state .
