In anticipation of the upcoming local government elections in Kaduna State, a coalition of peacebuilders and stakeholders has intensified efforts to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process across the state.
The Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ), Community Peace Observers (CPOs), and the Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) have joined forces to launch a sustained media campaign advocating for peaceful elections.
This coalition is actively engaging citizens through both traditional and social media platforms, stressing the importance of a transparent and violence-free electoral process.
Speaking on behalf of the Network of Peace Journalists in Kaduna, Team Leader Ibrahim Yakubu highlighted the involvement of over 50 media organizations from diverse platforms.
These organizations, along with other key stakeholders, are working tirelessly to raise awareness among youths, women, and the general public on the necessity of peace during the election period.
Yakubu shared that his team has participated in numerous live broadcasts on radio and television, where they promote good governance and urge citizens to vote for credible candidates who will foster development in their communities.
He called on the youth to shun violence and appealed to women to resist the temptation to sell their votes.
Furthermore, Yakubu urged all stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure that the elections are free from malpractice and called on political candidates to act as ambassadors of peace.
He also stressed the importance of security measures across the state to allow citizens to vote in a safe and peaceful environment.
