Why Yakubu Dogara Is Claiming Nigeria Is On The Right Track

By Imrana Abdullahi
Nigeria is drowning while Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara smiles from the comfort of television studios and claims the country is on the right track.
.This is not governance, it is spectacle. This is political theatre at the expense of millions of citizens staggering under hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and hopelessness.
In a statement Signed by Comrade Mohammed Grema Adamu
Chairman, Coalition of Northeast Youth Groups Leaders made available to news men revealed that
“To declare progress that cannot be touched, measured, or felt is a brazen insult. It is a mirage erected to shield ambition and comfort the elite while the people are suffering”, the statement added.
Dogara’s remarks are not expressions of insight, they are a calculated performance designed to curry favour with the current administration and to position himself as a candidate for the vice-presidential slot on the APC ticket in 2027.
He speaks not for Nigerians, he speaks for his personal advancement, at the cost of our collective dignity, his words are an abject display of opportunism, divorced from the agony of ordinary citizens.
Even more egregious is his attempt to reduce leadership to a crude exercise in religious symbolism, implying that the mere presence of a Christian or a Muslim on a political ticket automatically represents an entire faith community.
This is intellectual laziness, political deceit, and a betrayal of democracy. Nigeria is not a theatre of religious tokens, leadership is about regional balance, accountability, and equity, not hollow gestures to appease elites or faith blocs.
We challenge Dogara directly, when he became Speaker of the House of Representatives, was he elected by Christians alone? The answer is self-evident, he was elected by a diverse constituency of Muslims and Christians alike, and he represented all of his people, not just a religious bloc. In the House, he did not sit as a Speaker for Christians, he sat as Speaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. To now reduce leadership to religious arithmetic is hypocrisy of the highest order, a betrayal of the democratic mandate that once legitimised him.
Leadership is not decoration, it is not a symbol to be wielded for personal gain, any attempt to erase political zones while hiding behind faith is capricious, deceptive, and dangerous. Dogara is not a visionary, he is a politician chasing ambition with reckless disregard for citizens’ welfare.
The excuse of “inherited problems” is now exhausted, Nigerians did not elect leaders to lecture us about history, we elected leaders to ameliorate the present, to deliver measurable improvements in food security, safety, employment, and hope. When the people do not feel progress, the failure is not in perception, it is in performance.
The youths of the Northeast are done with condescension, done with comfortable politicians who intellectualise suffering instead of ending it. We are tired of being told to endure while prices soar, opportunities vanish, and hope is rationed. Patience is not policy and endurance is not governance.
Nigeria does not need lullabies crafted to soothe elite anxiety while misery spreads, it needs courage, honesty, and leadership that is practical, accountable, and efficacious. Representation is not a symbol, it is concrete, regional, and consequential.
Let it be known without ambiguity. Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is rejected not only by the people of the Northeast but by Nigerians across the country. His rhetoric is hollow, his ambition transparent, and his hypocrisy undeniable. We are alert, organised, and will confront every attempt to rewrite reality to suit political comfort or personal gain.
You cannot govern a suffering nation with illusions and mask failure with religion. You cannot pursue personal ambition at the expense of the people, insult the intelligence of Nigerians, and expect silence.
