Barely ten days to the governorship and state assemblies polls, the Sokoto state police command on Friday said it will not comprise its readiness towards taming any attempt to breach the peace in view of the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections in the state .
Addressing officers and men of the command on Gwandu road , Sokoto, Mr Usaini Gumel , Commissioner of Police in the state directed the police to show resilience , confront and subdue any weapon carrier and bring him to justice.
According to him, an active joint operation measures tagged ” Operation Kule-Chas” show of force comprising all security agencies under its ICCES strategic plan has been inaugurated .
” It is a joint operation of the Police ,army, airforce, NSCDC, Immigration and Customs.”
He said the command is leaving no stone unturned against any act of thuggery adding that ” you have the capacity and determination to act according to the directive. Ok ow you can do excellently well. ” Are you ready? Yes sir”,they unanimously answered .
Gumel stressed that any one found with weapon on any description will not escape arrest for prompt investigation and immediate punishment in accordance with the provisions of the law.
This, he vowed will not spare anyone found to be the sponsor of such act.
However, Gumel vowed not to entertain anyone no matter highly placed coming to seek the release of any suspect under arrest .
” Every one of you should take this serious that whoever on such mission should be arrested right from the entrance gate. We want action from today”, he rhetorically ordered .
According to the police Boss ” the window of negotiations for release of any suspect is foreclosed henceforth while sending stern warning to those allegedly hatching inciting acts capable of threatening the peace for political interest to desist.
Meanwhile, Gumel disclosed that the command had on Thursday recovered assorted locally made dangerous weapons from a fleeing group of thugs on the Bafarawa bridge along the Birnin Kebbi- Sokoto road which included matchets, knives, cutlasses and daggers among others.
